but good luck on your reassembly.

And good luck I seem to have. Yesterday I removed the engine and checked out the bolts with the torque converter. The problem it seems, was a bit of grime in the holes that was preventing the bolts from going all the way in. A very amateur mistake, but a cheap one too. So I'm not complaining too much :)

In regards to the parts, I've been lucky so far. Finding a replacement flex plate was a 10 minute task. But I fear finding another one (or a torque converter for that matter) would be a little harder. I've thought about picking one up of each to have as a spare, as they will only get harder to find.

mmm. i see.

my quandry is troubleshooting a torque convertor and or 003 trans for my 75 Westy.

it had the screechy whine, which chilton said was torque convertor... it eventually stopped whining, and transmitting i think too.
i see remanufactured units, not 003's though. mostly, understandably parts exist more on the left and in the middle of the country.

but good luck on your reassembly.

Thanks Eric. I am starting to think that the holes on the torque converter are stripped. I'm anxious to get the engine back out and take a look. I'll be measuring those bolts once I get them out.
